My parents are arriving tomorrow, with very little notice, so most of my day was spent cleaning.
These are my soaps, well used. I couldn't resist taking a break to take a picture. I love how the light shines through the glycerin. After taking that photo, with the intent to share on this blog, I realized that I am out of the habit of blogging and I miss it. I'm not exactly sure how to balance everything. It seems like with each new season I have to shift things around and re-balance. This season has been particularly difficult as we wait, and wait, and wait to see how G's work is going to settle out. I'm trying to be comfortable with uncomfortable. When that doesn't work, I'm distracting myself with projects.
I'm trying to fit as much "work" in as I can while the children are in school. I'm trying to paint something in the morning and do some sort of handwork in the afternoon. I am also trying to use materials I already have in the house. This is not really that difficult considering how many "materials" I have gathered over the years. The difficult part is resisting all the new things out there that I don't have. In the spirit of "using what I have" I am making great strides on the February Lady sweater, despite the repeated frogging. (pictures to come) I am also working on some Autumn/ Halloween inspired (a)rt blocks. The most satisfying project, today, has been my crocheted mat for in front of my sink.
I have been wanting to make one of these since we moved in. I'm using some fabric that I love but became a little tired of. I've had it for about two years now. I ripped it into one inch strips and joined them together by passing one strip through a slit and the tail through another slit. I saw this on someone's blog a long time ago and I can't remember where anymore. Sorry. It's genius though, no more knots and it creates a very consistent texture. I'm loving it and can't wait to use it. What I really need for the back is something to make it non-slip. I have many children and dogs who love to run through the kitchen. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! I hope everyone is having a lovely Autumn day.
