After writing all the product descriptions and "about me" sections for my Etsy Shop, MsEllaneousHandmade, I decided to turn my energy towards making some gifts for those very special people that have birthdays right around Thanksgiving. There seem to be numerous people that I know, and love, who have birthdays right around this time of the year. I'm always full of ideas about what to make for them, but often their birthday gifts are delivered a little bit late. This year seemed particularly challenging. Translation, there are still a few presents that need to be made and delivered.
I'm beginning to view these "close to the holidays" birthdays as a bit of a gift making warm up. It gets the ideas flowing, forces me to be organized, and gets the making frenzy started. It's like the beginning of a long race. Every year I say I'm going to start making earlier and pace myself. There are always unexpected diversions, however, and I am usually the one causing them. This year my main diversion came in the form of an un-ignorable need to knit Elf hats for some babies I know. Does anyone really need elf hats? Did I have time to knit elf hats? You would think the answer would be no and no. All I heard was KNIT ELF HATS! Sometimes you just have to follow your crazy.
Turns out the smallest hat is about as long as the baby and it's ridiculous, ridiculously cute. Also turns out, the other two hats fit his mom and dad, creating just about the cutest elf family ever! (Sorry other babies)
Next in line, a fairy house for a particularly appreciative four year old. This girl loves a handmade gift. She is a maker for sure! I can't wait to teach her how to knit.
I used to make presents like this all the time when my kids were little. I'm thankful that I have friends who still have little ones, and that I'm invited to their birthday parties!
There were some socks...
They are definitely late. There are also a couple more presents in "raw materials" form that I hope to get done today, or tomorrow, maybe?
In the middle of all the gift making, I'm also taking care of some business. The soaps I made a couple of weeks ago were ready to be wrapped and counted. They will be at a local Holiday Shop in December.
There's also a new pattern for a cowl/fingerless mitt set on the horizon.
Stay tuned.
I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving! Thank you for all your support and encouragement. Let me know what you are working on!
